3 – GO TO MUSEUMS
London’s museums are FREE to visit. Check out the British Museum, the Natural History Museum, the National Gallery, the Tate Modern, the Imperial War Museum, the Museum of London, and many more for absolutely nothing. These are perfect if you’re met with one of London’s infamous bad-weather days. Check it out for more information: http://www.timeout.com/london/museums/free-museums-in-london
4- SAVE MONEY ON EVENING ENTERTAINMENT
If you plan on going to see some top-class London theatre in the West End when you are in London it is a good idea to head to the TKTS booth in Leicester Square. Here you will have the opportunity to pick up discounted tickets on the same day of the performance, but be warned there are only limited seats available.
5- SIGHTSEEING IN LONDON FOR FREE
Many of the best things to see in London will not cost you a penny:
• Walk along the South Bank of the Thames, from Parliament to Tower Bridge
• Stroll through Hyde Park, being sure to stop at Speaker’s Corner
• Visit Piccadilly Circus and Leicester Square
• Witness the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace. It’s worth checking dates and times for the guard change : http://www.changing-the-guard.com/dates-times.html
• Explore Camden Market
• Visit Abbey Road and recreate the famous Beatles album cover
• Check out the Prime Meridian of the World at Greenwich and be in two places at once.
6- CHOOSE YOUR PUBLIC TRANSPORT WISELY
Buy an Oyster card ! The standard price for a single ride on the Tube is about £4.50 within Zones 1 and 2. That’s A LOT of money to ride a train. To cut down on costs, purchase an Oyster card. These little blue cards shave off over 50% of the price of a Tube ride — a single fare with an Oyster card costs £2.10.
Taking buses instead of the tube! Although taking the underground is so very British, it is by far one of the most expensive ways to get around London. When possible, take t
he bus instead. This is still very British (Can you GET more British than a big red double-decker bus?!), but not nearly as expensive. A single ride on a London bus costs £2.40 if you pay cash, or £1.40 if you pay using your Oyster card.
Or even better… Walk ! A lot of people both living in and visiting London don’t realise how short the distances are. Going by foot is also a great way to see the sights and note any deals or offers advertised by local businesses and it is great exercise!
Or better yet… grab a bike! You’ll need a credit card but a bike will only cost you £1 for 24 hours access or £5 for 7 days access. You’ll get 30 minutes access for free and then it’ll cost you £1 for the next 30 minutes. There are docking stations every 300-400 metres.
7 – USE DAILY DEALS WEBSITES
Many of the best London daily deals are published on a variety of websites. You can search these individually, especially if you know the sort of thing that you are looking for. If you are looking for things to do in London here great deals you should consider: http://www.kgbdeals.co.uk/london/39439-1-big-night-out-pub-crawl / www.LivingSocial.co.uk , www.wowcher.co.uk
8- VISIT THE MARKETS
Try visiting some of the many London markets where you can get amazing stuff well within your budget. They sell everything from food to flowers, modern art to antiques, clothes to curios. Large, sprawling markets such as Spitalfields, Camden Market or Portobello Road are ideal if you want to spend a day wandering about, hopefully finding a few bargains along the way.
